East Rim Drive Rehabilitation ProjectGood progress was made last year on improving the road conditions on East Rim Drive. The project will resume this summer to work on another section of the historic roadway. Snow ZoneCrater Lake National Park is considered a "Snow Zone" which means that chains or traction tires are required on all vehicles during the winter. If the roads are snowy and icy and your vehicle isn't properly equipped, you may not be permitted past the entrance station. Hiking Trails and Overnight BackpackingMost trails are snow covered and many are only accessible by hiking on sections of the road that are currently closed to vehicles. Contact the park for more details by email or calling 541-594-3100. Backpacking permits are available on a self serve basis at the Ranger Station, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. More information is available at backcountry camping.
Food and GiftsManaged by a concessioner, (click the links for hours of operations). Rim Village Cafe serves grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, and snacks. Rim Village Gift Shop offers visitors a wide range of gifts and Crater Lake collectibles. Snowshoe RentalsSnowshoe rentals are available at Rim Cafe and Gifts from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day. There are no overnight rentals. GasolineGasoline is NOT available for purchase at the Mazama Village Camper Store. The gas pumps are CLOSED for the season. Nearby gas outside of the park can be found at the following locations:
Electric Vehicle Charging Station(Managed and maintained all year by the concessioner. Contact at Explor Crater Lake or 541-594-2255.) A charging station for electric vehicles is located in front of the Annie Creek Gift Shop in Mazama Village. It has one standard connector and one Tesla connector. If there is a heavy snowfall, the EV station may be unavailable until it can be dug out.RestroomsRestrooms at Rim Village are open 24 hours. Vault toilets are open at Ponderosa Picnic Area and Old West on Hwy 62, and Goodbye Picnic Area. Restrooms are also available at all concession operated facilities during hours of operation. There is no restroom at park headquarters because Steel Visitor Center is closed.
Phone & InternetDial 911 to report any emergency, 24 hours a day. A 24-hour emergency landline is located outside the "snow-tunnel" entrance to the Administration Building in park headquarters, adjacent to Steel Visitor Center. There are no cell towers in the park. Cell service is random in areas around Rim Village and the overlooks along Rim Drive. Crater Lake Lodge offers wifi only for their guests. Wifi may be available to patrons of concession-run facilities in Rim Village (year-round) and Mazama Village (summer only).
Camping and LodgingCrater Lake Lodge, Mazama Cabins, Annie Creek Restaurant, and the Mazama Village Store and Mazama Campground are CLOSED for the season.
