Hiking South Bay Trail

Hike along the abandoned Bellingham & Skagit Interurban Railway grade between Fairhaven and Bellingham, which has been reclaimed as pedestrian trail. The gentle grade makes it a good option for new hikers, and excellent views of Bellingham Bay make for great trailside distractions.

Featuring a shoreline trail with bay and island views, the two-mile South Bay Trail connects the Central business district of Bellingham with downtown Fairhaven. Access the Interurban Trail from here.

Getting There

Driving Directions

If driving, take exit 250 off I-5 and proceed to Hwy 11. Follow Hwy 11 for 1.4 miles, then turn right onto 12th Street. Veer left onto Finnegan Way, and after 0.2 miles, continue onto 0.1 miles onto 11th Street, then continue onto Taylor Avenue.

This trailhead is accessible by bus! Plan your visit by bus using TOTAGO, or consult the schedule for Whatcom Transit Authority route number 1.
